Mauritius, 2013

We visited Mauritius in September for a very special reason. It was our wedding and honeymoon destination. I won´t show you here our wedding pics, but the beauty of this little island. Big thanks for the perfect time we had belongs to hotel Le Mauricia and the travel agency Blue Marlin - the real specialist in destination weddings!

PAMPLEMOUSSES BOTANICAL GARDEN - The Botanical Garden, formally known as Sir Seewoosagur Botanic Garden, is one of the most visited attractions in Mauritius. The garden is located in the proximity of Port-Louis in the district of Pamplemousse.

PORT LOUIS - Situated on the north-west coast, Port Louis is the business and administrative capital of Mauritius.

ILE AUX CERFS - known in English as the deer island is an island near the east coast of Mauritius. You will find here some of the worlds beautiful beaches and lagoons.

SEGA - after relaxing on the beautiful Ile aux cerfs we had a lunch at a pirate ship, including live music and sega dancers. The sega song and dance in Mauritius are a soulful expression of feelings for many locals. It´s very traditional.

BOIS CHERI TEA FACTORY - Bois Chéri is the first tea plantation in Mauritius dates back to 1892. A guide will lead you through the factory and the tea plantation, offering you to discover the history, stories and tales of the Bois Chéri and the importance of tea productions in Mauritius. After the guided tour of the tea factory, you will visit the tea production museum learning more about the history of tea in Mauritius. The Bois Chéri offers a great panoramic view of the south of the island. Nowadays Bois Chéri produces a new range of flavored teas, green teas and herbal teas. We could taste them during our visit and our favourite one was the coconut tea.

On the way to Grand Bassin we saw from the bus this crematory. Right next to the public street.

GRAND BASSIN HINDU TEMPEL - Grand Bassin is a sacred lake, which is about 1800 feet above sea level. The crater lake is one of the most important hindu pilgrimage sites outside of India. Along Grand Bassin there are several temples dedicated to Shiva and other Gods, little shrines and colourful statues.

23 COLORS OF EARTH - "La Vallée des Couleurs Nature Park" is one of the most famous and unique attraction of the island. The park is also home to tortoises, monkeys, stags, fish and also birds. The main attraction is the fascinating 23 coloured earth whose origin dates back to millions of years following the eruption of the Bassin Blanc Volcano. The ashes which bear witness to that event are unique in the world. The view of the park offers a captivating, breathtaking panoramic view of the South Coast.

GRIS GRIS -  The only break in the otherwise perfect barrier reefs circling Mauritius occurs in the South. Thus explaining the angry waves which come crashing on the cliffs. Swimming is strictly prohibited here. The place with great view is called Gris Gris. It is a favourite place for many locals to have a picnic and to relax with friends.

TAMARIN SALT FIELDS - During our car trip to the southwest coast we discovered this salt field in Tamarin and stopped by for some pictures.

ILOT GABRIEL - Gabriel island is a protected natural reserve. The island is most famous for its beautiful unspoiled beaches, with crystal clear water surrounding the entire island. It is a great place for snorkeling.

The last sunset...and then good bye Mauritius. We will come back!
